PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today’s PTA is comprised of 5 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, foster parents and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child.
Today, the issues affecting our children extend beyond their individual schools. The PTA’s nationwide network provides parents with the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children not only at their schools, but also throughout their districts, within their states, and across the nation. This mission is unique to the PTA.
Many benefits our children receive today, such as universal kindergarten, the National School Lunch Program, and a juvenile justice system, were accomplished as a result of the PTA mission.
With Today’s PTA, families also have access to important benefits, including:

West Virginia PTA is launching a special program, “Business for PTA”, to encourage business support of PTA and the children of our community. As a business neighbor, we would like to invite you to become a business partner of West Virginia PTA! Business for PTA is a special class membership which promotes a different kind of involvement than traditional PTA memberships.
The goal of this program is to create better schools and therefore a better education for the students in the community. Many school districts with dwindling budgets are using all the resources at their disposal just to try to make ends meet, and they need help. We feel that PTA and business can provide substantial help, by jointly taking their concerns to school boards, legislators and other policy makers who can influence education reform.
We would like for you to join us and over 5000 PTA members in West Virginia to improve the quality of education. Your business partnership will help in two ways. First, you can help strengthen our child advocacy efforts to reform education values and standards. Second, your partnership will help the West Virginia PTA promote the welfare of our children through special programs and projects not available with our schools’ limited budget. Business memberships will receive invitations to PTA sponsored events, plus recognition at these events, and your company name and logo will be advertised in our newsletter. We will share with the community your support of this coalition, and together we can show how solutions can be forged with business and education partnerships.
Benefits to being a partner:
The partnership will be in the name of the business or one individual that you designate as your representative and the cost is $150.00. Thank you! Email any questions about the Business Membership Program to resourcedevelopment@westvirginiapta.org.

Involving teachers and administrators is one of the best ways to strengthen communication between families and schools. Encouraging them to join PTA in a collaborative partnership between home and school should be one of the focal points of your membership campaign.
Who do we mean when we say “teacher”? While the “T” stands for teacher, school-based PTAs should engage all educators, administrators and adults in the building. Don’t forget about principals, school counselors, librarians, aides, specialists, front office staff, custodial staff, cafeteria workers, etc.

West Virginia PTA honors its local units by awarding yearly membership awards. Through the dedication of volunteers at the local level, membership flourishes throughout West Virginia.
The PTA membership starts July 1 and ends June 30 of each year. The end of a membership drive is a great opportunity to recognize your local unit’s efforts with a celebration. As you prepare to submit dues for members who have already joined, remember that membership growth doesn’t end in October or November, it continues all year long.
To encourage and celebrate ongoing membership efforts the West Virginia PTA proudly offers membership awards. While some are geared toward the beginning of the year, many opportunities remain after the New Year. These awards are presented at the WV PTA State Convention. Start the New Year strong by launching a new membership drive and continuing to grow your PTA community!
